JESUS WAS HIER
JESUS WAS HIER is a 6X8 limited edition signed print. On one of my trips to Amsterdam I photographed this sprayed-painted graffiti on a wall. The past tense stuck with me. Hier, of course, is Dutch for here.
It is preached in one form of religious beliefs or another that you have to love thy neighbors and thy enemies. Well, we love thy neighbors if they believe what we believe. And aren’t, you know, gay or some kind of minority. And we’ve done horribly with the hug your enemy part.
Some of the harsher believers seem to preach as much hate as love. Some of the “good news” being preached isn’t so nice. It’s ugly. In fact, it is sometimes hateful. It’s fake news.
Jesus and the prophets of other faiths were probably here, but I think they’ve left the building. Maybe for their own safety what with the spray-painted hate and the bombings and stabbings and stuff.
