HOW I MAKE THE STUFF
To make these works, a blown-up copy of a found black and white image is altered-- add this here, subtract that there, flip or flop, combine. It is then colored with acrylics, pens, markers, photo dyes, and --horreurs-- maybe enhanced with glitter, faux jewels, feathers, clothing, or an actual vintage clock.
The altered image is cut out and mounted on an invented background, often made with adapted found ephemera: song sheets, ads, book covers, old letters, library cards, inscriptions, or words found on the original. Or, the altered image(s) are glued to painted backgrounds that I have created from scratch, usually in acrylics.
