VARSITY SNAKE
VARSITY SNAKE is an 8x6 work on paper signed by the artist, me. To make this piece, the found b&w photo was enlarged, cut out, hand-colored (prisma color markers, paint pen, photo dyes) and mounted on a snake skin pattern. It is rubber stamped in red with the wabi-sabi symbol. It is part of my wabi-sabi series. A full definition can be found here on my Artspan.
The black and white snapshot was probably from the late 1940s. It had the word SNAKE written in black, pre-ballpoint ink on it. The guy is probably an athlete judging from his jacket. And he did someone wrong. One assumes whoever wrote âsnakeâ did not want a visual memory of this reptile and got rid of the picture. And now he's a work of art, and a good wabi-sabi example of beauty in imperfection.
